Description

In the year 929, Abderraman III proclaimed the Caliphate of Córdoba, following the proclamation of the Fatimí Caliphate in 909, and providing his kingdom of total independence with respect to the abasid caliphate of Baghdad, rival of the Umayyas. With the proclamation of Caliphate, Córdoba will be in its peak, both political and cultural, with a remarkable influence both in Christian kingdoms, and in North Africa and the Mediterranean. The caliphate crisis will begin 100 years after its foundation, in the year 1009 with a coup d”etat that deposes the Caliph HISHAM II. Throughout the conflict, the provinces will become independent in Taifas, and the Christians will win to be able to take advantage of the Muslim rupture. The caliphate was officially abolished in 1031, with all the provinces already separated into taifas kingdoms. From then on, Córdoba lost his preeminence in Muslim Spain.
