Description

In full occupation of Japan, the new Constitution entered into force in 1947 and included the usual rights and duties in the liberal constitutions, including universal suffrage. In 1951 relations with the US were formally normalized, and the occupation ended the following year. The emperor could continue, but with the characteristics of a constitutional monarchy, renouncing divine rights. Although the initial allied plans for Japan, they did not want a powerful economy, as with Germany, the development of the Cold War made this approach change. Yoshida Prime Minister helped in this task, focusing Japanese development in the economy, and ensuring a strong bond with the US, which moved foreign policy to a secondary plane. Korea”s war was a fundamental impulse for the Japanese economy that in 1949 had already managed to balance the deficit. By 1955 he had already overcome the values prior to war. The economy focused on technology and quality copied from the West with the Zaibatsu (gigantic corporations with very different businesses) already dissolved in the postwar period. Japan”s economy suffered a bubble in the late 80s that became crisis in the 90s, which has not really been recovered. In numismatics, the period begins with aluminum yen, the 5 and brass, the 10 and bronze and the rest of circulation currencies in Niquel (50 yen) and silver (100 yen), which at a few years, will continue in Cuproniquel, and that will still change for decades.
