France, Provisional government, 10 Francs – 1946

Description

After the invasion of Normandia, De Gaulle”s free France hurried to establish the provisional government of the French Republic, to prevent the allies from establishing an occupation government. This government was created with communist, socialist, and liberal democrats and determined the illegality of Vichy”s France annuling all its decrees. The women obtained the right to vote and new local governments were instituted. Thousands of collaborativeists were executed without trial, collaborative companies were nationalized, and again established unions and a new social security. De Gaulle, seeing that he could not control the different factions resigned in 1946 and shortly after the constitution that formally inaugurated the fourth republic was created. Numismatic emissions are reduced to a few pieces, returning to the standards of the third republic.
