Description

During World War I, the Arabs rose against the Ottoman domain, having been promised subsequent independence by the British with not very clear borders. On the other hand, the allies had already distributed the Ottoman Empire on the role before the end of the war, leaving only the Arabian peninsula outside their domains. When the war ended, the distribution lines established in the Sykes-Picot agreement were followed, which angered the Arabs who considered that they should receive part of the coast of Levante. Palestine was left as an international mandate, although Britain had already promised in the Balfour Declaration try to find a homeland for the Jews in 1917. In 1920 Great Britain obtained from the Nations League the mandate of Palestine control, so it was possible Concentrate these plans. During the mandate, the Arab and Jewish nationalist movements grew, leading to various protests and insurgences of both sides. After World War II, and seeing the impossibility of reaching a local agreement, the United Nations made a proposal that was approved on November 29, 1947 as resolution 181. A border separation was made between the Arab-Palestinian state and the Jew , with an economic unit. While the Jewish groups mostly accepted the resolution, the Arab-Palestinians did not do, or the Arab League and other groups, which announced that they would oppose the partition. Subsequently, the British announced that they would leave in May 1948. The last day of mandate, David Ben-Gurion declared the state of Israel with his provisional government, with the immediate recognition of the US. In the following days, Syrian, Iraqi, Egyptian and Lebanese troops crossed the border, the 1948 Arab-Israeli war began that concluded with the 1949 peace agreements that gave the Jordanian control of the West Bank, the Egyptian of the Gaza Strip and the rest under Israeli domain.
