Description

On September 23, 1932 IBN Saud unifies the two kingdoms of Nejd and Hejaz under the name of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Initially the resources were scarce. A very limited agriculture, increased by trade generated around pilgrims to holy places. In 1938 extensive oil fields were found in the region near the Persian Gulf and its exploitation began by Aramco in 1941. These wells were going to bring countless resources and prosperity to the country. In 1972, Saudi Arabia increased its participation in Aramco, and in 1973 led the price escalation that would lead to the Western oil crisis. Partly for Western support to Israel in the Yom Kippur war. For 1976 Arabia was already the largest producer of crude oil and with major prices, oil revenues were already astronomical. The Iranian revolution and a wave of Islamic terrorism in 1979, made Arabia increase the loop with the West, and that on the other hand, increase cultural tradition. After the Gulf War, there was a growing concern of Islamist groups for the growing proximity to the US, which encouraged the growth of terrorist groups funded by Saudi, of which Osama Bin Laden represents the best example.
