Description

After the liberal revolutions that toured Europe in 1848, Denmark was peaceful in a parliamentary monarchy in 1849, approving a new constitution that created a bicameral parliament (although a constitutional change in 1953, would leave a single chamber). A short time later, Denmark had to face an important challenge in Schleswig”s Second War, in which he was defeated by Prussia and Austria, annexing Prussia Schleswig and Holstein as a province. After this episode, Denmark would try to maintain international neutrality and culminate rapid industrialization in the late nineteenth century, thanks to the growing international trade, since Denmark lacked many resources. After the end of World War I, in which Denmark remained neutral, the allies offered Denmark the return of Schleswig and Holstein, to which he opposed without a referendum. Once this was done, North of Schleswig met with Denmark in 1920. In 1940 Denmark was invaded by Germany (with whom he had signed a non -aggression agreement the previous year), with whom he collaborated until 1943. In 1944, Iceland became independent from Denmark. The years after war would be integration into international entities, being a founding member of NATO, and EFTA, although in 1973 along with other members of united CEE.
