Description

From early, Vienne hosted a bishop, ensuring that the first bishop was San Crescencio, a disciple of Paul. In 450, the bishop became Archbishop. The archbishopric went through many hands, as he was briefly conquered by the bourgeois, returning to Roman control a few years later in the s.v. In 534 he was conquered by the Merovingians, being looted by the Lombards in 558, and by the Moors in 737. In the Treaty of Verdun he would be integrated into the middle France. Carlos El Calvo, assigned the district to the Count of Provence, and continued to change hands, while the real power radiated in the archbishops, although they had very strong rivalities, especially with the Viennois county that surrounded the archbishopric. Viennois”s dolphins sold their rights to France in 1349 but the archbishopric remained independent. They would end up giving their earthly rights to the king of France in 1449 The Archbishopric of Vienne was eliminated in 1790 in the middle of the revolution, and formally dissolved in 1801 with the new concordat.
