Description

The Pala Empire is an empire that extended between the s.viii and the XII along the coast of the Bengal Gulf, also reaching areas of northern India. The name derives from the names taken by the rulers, who ended with the Palas suffix, with the meaning of protector. After the fall of the Shanka, Bengal was in a state of anarchy with continuous fights between gentlemen of the war. Gopala became king, starting a new dynasty. The evidence is scarce, but it would seem that it would have been a law chosen by other lords. With his son Dharmapala and his grandson Devapala there is an important territorial expansion. After a brief subsequent decline, towards the year 1000 the Empire has a new rebirth with Mahipala I and there would be a new era of decline, with a new expansion with Ramapala with the final decay posterior being the blade dynasty replaced by the Sena dynasty. The mintings are mostly of the Indo-Sasanida type with what an altar looks like.
