Description

In 793, Charlemagne sent Ludger to evangelize the area. He was appointed first bishop and the first cathedral ended in 850. In fact, Munster”s name comes from Monastery, from this religious settlement created by Ludger. In the Middle Ages, Munster was part of the Hanseatica League, and in 1534 it was the place of the Anabaptist revolt that took power. The revolt was led by Juan de Leiden, and founded a new Jerusalem. They burned all the books except the Bible, and thought that led by the Munster voter could conquer the world and free him from evil before the second coming of Christ. After a siege by the bishop, the city was reconquered in 1535 and all the Anabaptists eliminated. In 1648 in Munster and Osnabruck, the negotiations that led to the peace of Westphalia took place putting an end to the 30 -year war, and that they assured the future of the bishop of the headquarters. There were emissions of the bishopric, the chapter of the Cathedral, and the city. The emissions of the cathedral were initially files, replaced by regular emissions from 1661 and disappearing at the end of the 18th century.
