Description

In 1468, Jaime II Lusignan reached the throne of Cyprus and married Catalina Cornaro, Venetian Nobre, which was well seen by the Venetians who longed to control Cyprus for a long time. Jaime II died a short time later, and Catalina pregnant acted as a regent, but her son Jaime, died before her first birthday of Malaria and Catalina she became queen. The Kingdom of Cyprus in Declive was a tributary of the Mamelucos of Egypt from 1426, but with Catalina in power from 1474 to 1489, the kingdom was really controlled by Venice. In that year, Catalina was forced to sell the kingdom to the Republic of Venice. In 1570 the Ottomans attacked again, but not with a new pillage attack, but a large -scale attack with the participation of 60,000 soldiers who landed near Limassol and began the siege of Nicosia that fell in 2 months. The important fortress of Nicosia had not been completed and could not face the siege. However, famous if it was ready and its siege lasted a year, in which the Santa League had time to set up a fleet to help the island, but by then the situation in the city was already unsustainable and Marantonio Bragadin negotiated the surrender in some Terms that the Ottomans did not comply. The Ottomans had worn a lot in the attack, and when the fleet prepared by the Holy League arrived, they could not cope by losing the famous battle in lepanto.
