Fiji, Independent domain, 5 Cents – 1976

Description

In 1965 a constitutional conference in London was maintained with the aim of granting the responsible government to Fiji. The citizens of Indian origin wanted independence with universal suffrage immediately, but those ethnically of Fiji feared that an Indo-Fijiana majority government could strip them of their advantageous situation. The British determination to grant independence, ended up convincing the latter to try to achieve the best possible treatment. In October 1970, independence was achieved and a period began with a Parliament that tried to maintain a balance between the distinct social groups of the islands. In 1987 there were two coup d”etat, for the perception that the Indians-Fijians were dominating the government, and the second blow also ended the monarchy (British), and with the name of Domain of Fiji, by the Republic of the Republic of Fiji
