Description
The civil war initiated in 1860 dissolved the Granada Confederation, returning a lot of power to the States. The new Constitution of 1863 established the US of Colombia, with a central government in which the president was elected by the States, for a 2 -year period without the possibility of immediate re -election. It was a liberal constitution, and the first government was demonstrated very anticlerical, including the confiscation of ecclesiastical lands. In 1871 the Association to the Gold Patron, linked the Colombian peso to the Francés Francés. In 1886, the conservative government proclaimed a new centralist constitution that ended with the US of Colombia, establishing the Republic of Colombia. The conservatives immediately abandoned the gold standard, creating galloping inflation. Conflicts between conservatives and liberals would continue to the secession of Panama.
