Description
The Duchy was divided between what will later be Belgium and the Netherlands. Thus, the independence of the north, as part of the United Provinces, will be recognized in 1648 in the Westphalia treaty that puts the final end to the war between the Austrias and these provinces (80 -year -old war), which is mostly this era. From that date only southern Brabante remains in the Spanish Netherlands, which in the war of succession will end up assigned to the other branch of the Austria family.
