Description

The creation of the Austrian Empire is an answer to the first French empire, and it was basically a multinational empire that encompassed the heritage possessions of Habsburg. Perhaps it was a movement to prevent Napoleon from opting for the title of Emperor of the Holy Empire, and guaranteeing the title of Austria Emperor for the Habsburg family. Until the formal dissolution of the Holy Empire in 1806, both empires were partially overlapping. The kingdom of Hungary was administered totally independent, and is thus guaranteed in its constitution. Until 1848, under the control of the Metternich Chancellor, the Austrian Empire will be one of the European powers, concerned with maintaining control and balance of forces. The 1830 revolts will stagger the regime initially, but those of 1848 will end the Metternich era. The final part of this era will be marked by external threats, initially by the kingdom of Sardinia, and finally Prussia that with its defeat in 1866, will force the Austro-Hungarian commitment of 1867, which makes up the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
