Kanato Chagatai was founded by Genghis Khan”s second son, and was continued by his successors. Initially, the Qara Khitai area, that is, between the Aral Sea and the current border between China and Mongolia, most of the current countries of Uzbequistan, Tayikistan and Kirgistan, in addition to parts of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, China and Mongolia. Initially they recognized the authority of the great Khan, but for the times of Kublai Khan, Baraq (1266-1301) no longer obeyed the emperor. In the mid -19th century, they lost Transoxian to the Timurids and the remaining was divided into the S.XV between the Kanatos of Turpan and Yarkent that were controlled between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the XVIII by the Dzungar Kanato.
