Description

In 1951, and trying to avoid the UN pressures towards the decolonization of Africa, the Government of Salazar, very involved with the romantic conception of the Portuguese Empire, makes the colonies colonies into overseas provinces. However, there was already a critical mass with colonization and will begin to press, decreasing in the wars of independence that exploded in 1961. The main movements were the FLNA, directed by Holden Roberto, who moved on the border with the newly Independent Republic of the Congo, the MPLa of openly communist cut and the Unita near the southern border. In 1972, the Portuguese Congress, trying to give greater independence to these territories to appease the situation, will give them the status of state. After the Revolution of the Carnations in Portugal, the government of Antonio de Spinola decides to give independence to the colonies, and a government is agreed with the main independence groups, which will soon begin a civil war.
