Description

After the Austrian defeat in the Austro-Prussian war, it was clear that certain changes had to be made to keep Hungary in the empire. This led to conversations with the Hungarian nobility that concluded with the commitment of 1867 that I create the Austro-Hungarian Empire as two kingdoms with the names: – The kingdoms and countries represented in the Imperial Council – Territories of the Crown of San Esteban That colloquial were known as Cisleitania and Transleitania for being the Leita river that marked the border. Cisleitania included territories from Galicia and Lodomeria in the East, to Trieste, Trento and Gorizia in the West. The government of this crown, included control of all matters, except the commons with Hungary (basically foreign policy). The members of the Parliament, originally delegates from the areas, became chosen by census vote in 1873 and by universal suffrage with the 1907 reform. This change caused the Slavs, until then minority, will master the Parliament. The tensions between Slavs and Germans were a constant of the time. Some Slavs defended the split, while some Germans, defended the union of the German lands with the German empire. When these differences made the country ungovernable, the emperor resorted to the autocratic government through imperial decrees. The common issues of the Empire were carried out through two egalitarian delegations of Cisleitania and Transleitania. After the murder of the heir to the imperial throne he was killed in Sarajevo by members of the black hand, the events were precipitated to a war whose scale had not been expected by the majority. The war ended with the defeated empire, and on October 31, 1918 it was the dissolution with the Hungarian separation proclamation.
