Description

Initially Austria was divided among the allies, similar to Germany and in fact, Churchill”s original plan implied the creation of a German state of the South integrating Austria and Bavaria. But in April 45, Renner, an Austrian statesman, created a provisional government that was socialist, communists and conservatives. It was the pressure of this government, formed in its vast majority by leaders pursued by the Nazis, and in any case, outside them, which favored that it was very soon to Austria as if it had been another country invaded by Germany and released by the allies. By agreement of the allies, this government was allowed to work and maintain external relations since June 28, 1946. Austria could participate in the Marshal Plan and the Second Republic was demonstrated stable. Thus, the two main parties, social-democratic and democratian maintained coalition until 1966. The very minority communist party remained in the coalition until 1950 and in Parliament until 1959. The two parties of the coalition struggled to free the country from allied occupation and recover total independence, which was achieved in 1955 establishing itself as a neutral country. The political system of this era was based on the consensus (proportion), always consulting the unions and associations prior to any legislation, to ensure that it reflects the opinions of all those affected. Austria entered the European Union in 1995, also entering the Eurozone in its foundation.
