Description
On January 7, 1964, the new Constitution that granted self -government to the Bahamas was approved. The Pindling Premier, announced in 1968 that the Bahamas would seek independence, and in 1968 a new constitution was approved that allowed greater control of the Bahamas about internal affairs. Finally in 1973, the British Parliament voted in favor of the independence of the Bahamas with the official statement on July 10 of that year. Since 1966 the currency is the dollar of Bahamas that officially replaced the pound, entering the country into the decimal system. The currency is in parity with the dollar and a large part of the coins has similarity with its relatives of the USA, with some exceptions such as the coins of 15 cents.
