Description

The 1840 Union Act joined the colonies of the Alto and the Bajo Canada, replacing them with a single Legislative Assembly. In 1857, Queen Victoria fixed the final capital of the province in Ottawa. The main problem that the province had to face was the difficulty of legislative initiatives when the two provinces (which would later be known as Ontario and Quebec), had the same number of representatives. In cases of disagreement, the blockade was absolute and this ended up generating the movement for the creation of the Confederation.
