Description

Anjou is a historical region of France, whose name derives from a Celtic tribe called Andecavi, subjected to Rome in the Gallic war by Julio César. Anjou County is originally established in Carolingia era by Carlos El Calvo, in front of the threat of Bretons and Normans. Soon the family of Condes appoints the Ingelger family as Viscount, and these are made soon with the county. With the death of Godofredo II Martel without offspring, he inherits his nephew Godofredo III of Anjou, and the Angevina dynasty (Plantagenet) comes into play. Thus, with the Association of the County of Anjou, Mas Maine, Normandy and other domains that had joined under this dynasty, with the kingdom of England under Enrique II, the Angevinos formed a powerful empire that the French king, Felipe II disassemble. Thus, the county is seized and attached to the crown by the monarch, but later, in 1246, it is left as Apanage for the brother of King Louis IX, Carlos I. With the arrival of Felipe to the throne of France as Felipe VI, the county joined the kingdom of France again.
