Description

It is created in 1458 when Hanau County is divided into two parts, Hanau-Munzenberg and Hanau-Michtenberg. Due to the lines that crossed, both counties were united between 1642 and 1685, and also between 1712 and 1736. In 1736 with the extinction of the Hanau line, the Landgrave of Hesse-Casel inherited the county. The breakage of the county is done to increase the possibilities of survival by leaving a part to the heir uncle who could prosper with his own offspring. In fact, the counts always died young, leaving heir children, probably due to some herditary disease. On the Lutheran side of the reform from the beginning, at the end of the XVI, the county went to Calvinism, which made it an attractive destination for French and Dutch refugees, mostly wealthy merchants that allowed the county to enjoy a good collection . In the 30 -year war, it was an important place for the fortress that had been built. She was occupied in 1631 by the Swedes, and would remain for several years. The County Bando County on a couple of occasions, since for a Calvinist, the choice between Catholics and Lutherans was not evident, and the tactical interest prevailed. In 1636 he was besieged by Catholic troops without being able to conquer the square. At the death of Philipp Moritz in 1638, the counties of Hanau-Munzenberg and Hanau-Michtenberg again joined in the heir.
