Description
With the fall of the Berlin wall in November 1989, German unification accelerated. The following year, the first free elections in Eastern Germany were convened, which totally lost the Communist Party, which accelerated the negotiations. In summer of 1990, the Parliament of Eastern Germany, voted the dissolution and incorporation to the German Federal Republic, which became effective on October 3, 1990. The economy of Eastern Germany, which had had a stable reputation among the economies of the Eastern Block, proved to be in an absolute decline, which made the cost of unification very high for Western Germany (estimated at 2 billion euros) . Unified Germany was consolidated in any case, as a first order power at all levels.
