Description

The British RAJ also known as direct control era, is the way in which India”s control is formed after the great rebellion of 1857. It extended over the current countries of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh (more Burma that would later form its own colony in 1937), except for small possessions from other countries, and certain territories managed by local dynasties, under British nominal sovereignty. These are the famous princely states, respected by the British for alliances and pacts of the previous time, managed by the Eastern Indies Company. Foreign issues and defense were always British responsibility. At the time of Independence, in 1947 there were 565 princely states between India and Pakistan. The management of this broad region was divided into provinces and the general governor of Calcutta was called Virrey, supported by the Council as usual at the time of the company. Since 1937, India was divided into 17 administrations. Three presidencies, and 14 provinces. The British impact on India is very discussed. While it is true that certain parts of the economy were subject to British interests, the tax imposition was reduced with respect to the Mughal era. It is difficult to know if the British favored the development of the economy, or if on the contrary they supposed a ballast. In any case, his speech would not have been possible without the necessary collaboration of the Indian elites.
