In 1693 within the 9 -year war, the Dutch took Pondicherry and increased their fortifications. Surerat”s factories also fell into the hands of the British, which almost completely reduced the trade of the Indian colonies with France. The French recovered the colony in 1699 by the Ryswick Treaty signed in 1697.
