Tamil dynasty that controlled southern India between the third and ninth century. He stood out from the fall of the Satavahana dynasty of which he was feudatary, and was in permanent conflict with Chalakyas and Cholas. They were finally defeated by the Chola at the end of the S.IX The dynasty is known for the great construction of Hindu temples, laying the bases of the southern architectural style of India. They developed the Pallava alphabet and traded intensely with the island of Sri Lanka. His era of greatest splendor was between 600 and 668 under the reigns of Mahendravarman I and Narasimhavarman I.
