Description

The Portuguese had already tried to establish themselves in DiU before, from the battle of Diu in 1509, in which a European power overcame an important naval battle for the domain of the Indian, which would mark the path to the Second World War. In 1535, Bahadur Shah, Sultan de Gujarat allows the Portuguese to establish a fort in DiU, through the military alliance they established against the Mughal. The alliance lasted little, but the Sultan could not evict the Portuguese of the fort, who were more and more protecting him. In fact, it could not be taken by Dutch or other colonial empires later, and would remain under Portuguese control until 1961, in which the Republic of India, invaded Portuguese India. The strategic importance of the fort, would begin to decline with the rise of Bombay, becoming a simple reflection of the first European contacts.
