Description

With the dissolution of the British RAJ, and Portugal”s opposition to give its colonies, Portuguese India was converted into the overseas province, formed by Goa, Lady and Diu. As with most colonies, Portugal, under the dictatorship of Salazar, wanted to cope with the decolonization policy followed by the recently created United Nations, trying to demonstrate that it was not colonies, if not overseas provinces. India did not cease to request the annexation of these territories and in December 1961, they finally annexed them through a military invasion, ending with 450 years of Portuguese India.
