Description

The 1921 Anglo-Ilandic Treaty allowed the creation of the Free State of Ireland in 1922. The treaty ended the 3-year war for the independence carried by Ira. The State was established as a domain of the British Empire, allowing the Ulter to remain outside, which made immediately. The new State was made up of a general governor (representative of the crown) and an Executive Council replacing the provisional government. With the Westminster Statute of 1931, the British government basically gave practical independence to domains. When the free state was reached, a civil war began between the forces in favor of the treaty (government), and against, basically anger and Sinn Fein. In 1926, Eamon de Valera, leader of Sinn Fein, resigned by failing to change the direction of the party, forming the Fianna Fail that would become the majority party. Once in power, Valera began a more belligerent stage with the United Kingdom, and prepared a new Constitution approved in Plebiscite in 1937, which implied the change to the Republic of Ireland. Until 1927 the official currency was the pound sterling, but in 1928 the Saorsstat Libra was created, although de facto would remain linked to the sterling pound for another 50 years, passing in 1937 to be called Irish Libra.
