Description

In 1937 with the new Constitution created from the Westminster Statute, Ireland became completely independent, although in reality the Republic of Ireland was not officially proclaimed until 1949. The new state was neutral in World War II, although it helped the Allied side. Large -scale emigration was widespread until the 80s. Between 1995 and 1999 the growth of GDP reached almost both digits, beginning to call Ireland the Celtic Tigre. It was integrated from the beginning in the euro zone, at which time it had become the sixth richest country in income per capita. The main explanation lies in the installation of the headquarters of a large number of multinationals (especially American), due in part to the low taxes, to its presence in the European Union and euro zone, to the language and also to a youth formed in technology . The 2008 crisis ended this rapid growth era, but after several years of loss of GDP, it is still one of the richest countries for per capita income. In any case, the rapid modernization has brought with it the progressive secularization of a population until it has been deeply Catholic.
