Description

Avis”s house was founded when Juan I of Portugal, illegitimate son of Pedro I, and Grand Master of the order of Avis, reached the throne in 1385. Juan I arrived on the throne, for the opposition that raised the widow of his stepbrother as Regent of his daughter Beatriz married to Juan I of Castile. Juan de Avis”s victory over the Castilian troops in Aljubarrota, allowed him to secure the throne. The House of Avis would direct Portugal during the era of discoveries and the conquest of Ceuta in 1415, the first step in this path that would see Portugal would become a European power. In 1471 there is a nominal change in the kingdom of the Algarbe incorporated into the Portuguese crown, which is called the kingdom of Portugal and the Algarb. The Algarbe was after the Almohad solution forming the fog taifa and after the conquest by Portugal was integrated as a differentiated kingdom in Portuguese law, but without any real change (privileges or privileges).
