Description
Archipelago of volcanic origin, is one of the two autonomous regions of Portugal (being the other Madeira) since the new Constitution of 1976. Tourism has become one of the main engines of the regional economy, although they remain a strategic point from the military point of view, as an intermediate point in the Atlantic, and which is why Portugal was a founding member of NATO.
