Description
With the carnation revolution, Portugal lost the empire and had to agree with the colonies its independence. After the current revolutionary process, democracy was recovered with the first elections in 1975, although Portugal remained governed by the National Salvation Board until 1976 with the first legislative elections. Portugal had to face the return of almost 1 million people from the colonies, and growth rates lower than those of the state of Novo. If the 1976 Constitution was of socialist orientation, the country would range between socialism and neoliberalism, happening several constitutional reforms. In 1986, Portugal entered CEE with Spain, which will mean importing development, with the entry into a market without tariffs, and the help of European structural funds. This will mean a rapid modernization of the country.
