Description

With the 1848 revolution and the fall of the monarchy in France, the island lost its name from Isla de Borbón, becoming a meeting again. In that same year, slavery was abolished, passing the workforce to be “not paid.” The island would have the Statute of Colonia until 1946 in which it is established as a French overseas department. During World War II, he was under the control of Vichy”s France, until the end of 1942 when he was occupied by free France. Since the opening of the Suez Canal, its strategic importance was reduced by its departure from the communication route with the colonies of Asia and Oceania.
