Description

After being expelled from the Malaysian Federation in August 1965, Singapore became a new independent country, the Republic of Singapore, with Lee Kuan Yew as Prime Minister, and the PAP in power. Lee Kuan Yew, who held the position until 1990, promoted the country towards economic growth, promoting entrepreneurship and limiting internal democracy, factors that are still characteristics of the country today. Economic growth shot in the 80s, focusing the country on high technology, and building an airport that would become a hub of Southeast Asia, together with its port that also became one of the world”s largest volume in this epoch. The PAR continues in power, maintaining in its moments of greater crisis 60% of the popular vote.
