Description

After the death of Carlos XII in 1718, Sweden went through a period of political instability and internal struggles for power. This led to the promulgation of the succession law of 1719, which established a new system of government and limited the power of the monarchy. During the reign of Federico I (1720-1751), Sweden focused on reconstruction after wars and the restoration of its economy. Administrative and economic reforms were implemented to promote trade and industry. In 1772, there was a coup known as the coup of the hats in which King Gustavo III assumed power. Gustavo III implemented political and social reforms, promoted culture and arts, and sought to strengthen the power of the monarchy. In 1789, the French Revolution broke out, which led to political and social tensions in Europe. Sweden was affected by these influences and there were debates about the adoption of liberal and constitutional reforms in the country. In 1809, Sweden suffered a military defeat against Russia in the Finnish war and lost control of Finland. This event led to the abdication of King Gustavo IV Adolfo and the establishment of a new form of government with the adoption of a Constitution in 1809. Throughout the nineteenth century, Sweden experienced a period of economic and social development. Reforms were carried out in areas such as education, health and labor rights. In addition, industrialization was encouraged and Sweden became an important iron and steel producer. At the beginning of the 20th century, Sweden remained neutral during the two world wars, although he had to face economic and supply challenges during those periods. After World War II, Sweden embarked on a period of economic development and social welfare known as the Swedish model, which was characterized by a high level of well -being and a mixed economy.
