Description
In 1603, Jaime VI, king of Scotland, became king of England and Ireland, forming the personal union of the three kingdoms. The king was able to force greater control of the clans, but despite everything, Scotland was a separate state during all these years. At the end of the 17th century, the company of Scotland, tried to secure a colony in the Isthmus of Panama, but its failure ruined the majority of Scottish landowners. This situation and a certain fear of an English invasion, favored that in 1706, both the English and the Scottish Parliament, the Treaty of the Union favorably voted, creating the Parliament of Great Britain in 1707.
