Description

The era of relative Irish freedom ended after the revolt of 1798, influenced by the war with revolutionary France. To avoid possible Irish independence, which served as an ally to France, it was decided to unite the two countries in a treaty endorsed by both parliaments, and which entered into force on January 1, 1801. Great Britain left the Napoleonic wars, with a powerful armed, the largest industry on the planet, and a strongly conservative, suspicious policy of any revolutionary conato. During the nineteenth century, the country became the first world power, with an empire never seen in the five continents. From 1858, the jewel of the crown, India, ceased to be subject to the control of the Eastern Indies Company, and became under control of the State, after the failed riot of the previous year. Without permanent alliances, the United Kingdom established the foreign policy of the splendid isolation, in which it would remain until the Second Anglo Boer War, where this policy began to demonstrate its weaknesses. In this way, the triple entente with France and Russia had been configured before World War I. The independence of Ireland would end the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, which would naturally continue with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 1922
